Nέα κωμωδία ‘Spare Ribs’
Oι νικητές του βραβείου ‘Edinburgh Fringe First’, Rubber Ear Productions, περιοδεύουν το νησί με τη νέα κωμωδία, ‘Spare Ribs’ που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στην Πέγεια, Πάφο και το Πισσούρι φέτος τον Οκτώβριο.
Tο έργο πρόκειται για τρεις αδίστακτες γυναίκες που εργάζονται σε ένα κρεοπωλείο σχεδιάζουν εκδίκηση για για έναν πρώην σύζυγό ενώ παράλληλα προσπαθούν να κερδίσουν το τρόπαιο του πολυπόθητο «Kαλύτερου Λουκάνικο».
Στη συνέχεια, μετά από ένα τυπογραφικό λάθος στην τοπική εφημερίδα, τους παίρνει τα πράγματα έξω από τον έλεγχό τους και χρησιμοποιούν την γυναικεία πονηριά τους να παρασύρουν ένα διαφορετικό είδος ‘πελατείας’.
Περιοδεία του ‘The Devil Wears Primark’ στη Βρετανία
Μετά από αυτή την περιοδεία, η συγγραφέας, σκηνοθέτης και ηθοποιός Kathleen Ruddy κάνει προετοιμασίες για την περιοδεία του ‘The Devil Wears Primark’ στη Βρετανία.
Αυτή η κωμωδία της πολυβραβευμένης συγγραφέας πραγματοποιήθηκε σε διάφορα αμφιθέατρα στην Κύπρο το 2012.
Προκεται για μια προβληματική αγγλο-κυπριακή οικογένεια που συγκεντρώνει για να γιορτάσουν όταν η μητέρα, η Αθηνουλλα, απονεμήθηκε το MBE από την βασίλισσα για τις υπηρεσίες της στο ραδιόφωνο.
Οι περίεργες συμβουλές της στους ακροατές του Ηνωμένου Βασιλείου με σεξουαλικά προβλήματα εκτείνεται και στα μέλη της οικογένειάς της – είτε το θέλουν είτε όχι.
Ο πατέρας είναι ένας τραβεστί που πάσχει από ναρκοληψία. Ο γιος φέρνει στο σπίτι ένα κορίτσι τουρκικής καταγωγής και η κόρη επικοινωνεί μόνο με μαριονέτες.
Επίσης, ένας από τους ακροατές της θέλει να την σκοτώσει …
Το πρώτο της θεατρικό έργο, ‘Sex, Chips and Ouzo’ μετατρέπεται σε ταινία μεγάλου μήκους στην Κύπρο και Σκωτία.

Venues for Spare Ribs tour of Cyprus

PISSOURI AMPHITHEATRE
Pissouri staged the last performance of Sex, Chips and Ouzo’s 2011 tour and has always been very welcoming to Rubber Ear Productions since our first ever tour in 2003. 2012’s performance of The Devil Wears Primark was a great success here, as was Death Of A Playboy in June 2013.
It’s a modern amphitheatre built in a classical style with fantastic acoustics and a wonderful view of Pissouri Bay which we will of course block from sight with our gaudy set.
Make the most of the village before and after the show by the way. Lots of bars, tavernas and restaurants in winding, rustic lanes and of course Pissouri Bay down the road has one of the best hotels on the island – The Columbia Hotel and Resort.

Horizon Crown Resorts Amphitheatre in Coral Bay
The HORIZON CROWN RESORTS Hotel, Coral Bay
You would be forgiven for thinking that the amphitheatre at the Crown Resorts Hotel looks like it was built by Fred Flintstone.
This hidden gem was brought to our attention by the then manager and later close friend Mr Renos Vasiliades, who saw its potential and encouraged us to take full advantage.
Rubber Ear Productions were the first professional theatre group to perform here (back in 2003) with Sex, Chips and Ouzo, which we repeated in 2004 and then followed with Check Your Coupon in 2005, The Best Of Scottish Comedy (stand-up tour) in 2006 , Sex, Chips and Ouzo again in 2011, The Devil Wears Primark in 2012 and Death of A Playboy in June 2013.
This cosy little venue has since been popular with a plethora of jazz concerts, big band nights and charity events.
As with past plays, we have chosen to start our Spare Ribs tour here in 2014.
Performances are on here as follows: Wednesday 1st October, Thursday 2nd October and Friday 3rd October. All start at 8pm.

Paphos Ancient Odeon Amphitheatre
The PAPHOS ANCIENT ODEON Amphitheatre
The Paphos Ancient Odeon is part of the town’s Archaeological Park and is located at the northeastern edge of the ancient city . It was built around 300 BC, establishing the City of New Paphos.
Rubber Ear Productions performed here last year with The Devil Wears Primark and in 2011 with Sex, Chips and Ouzo to full houses on both occasions. Death Of A Playboy played the final night here in June 2013. Kathleen Ruddy also performed here in the annual Festival of Ancient Greek Drama which takes place in Cyprus every July.
That same festival featured an unforgettable troupe from the US, interpreting an ancient Greek classic by filling their underwear with rocks, walking around the stage like incontinent, bandy-legged cowboys and moaning like dying whales. I think the very confused audience got their money’s worth that night, assuming they got in for free.
The performance here is on Sunday 5th October at 8pm.

Rubber Ear Productions and Pafos2017 – Announcement
We are proud to announce that Rubber Ear Productions are supporting the Pafos 2017 bid for European Capital of Culture with both our Devil Wears Primark tour of Cyprus and the Sex, Chips and Ouzo film later this year.
After a meeting with Executive Manager for the Pafos bid, Mr Ektor Tsatsoulis earlier today, it was agreed that Rubber Ear Productions would promote the bid and the Pafos2017 team would endorse Kathleen Ruddy’s play and screenplay until the results of the candidacy later next month.
Should Pafos be successful with their proposal, future cooperation between the two parties may lead to some very exciting ventures indeed.

A few of you have called us asking for details on disabled access to our venues. We are compiling a detailed description of access for wheelchair-users and non-wheelchair users which we will update in the next few days.
HORIZON CROWN RESORTS HOTEL, Coral Bay
Access via hotel reception (ramp) or directly to amphitheatre via car park on the night. Top seating will be most convenient for non-wheelchair bound audience or space above top seating for wheelchair bound. Access to bar area is level with top of amphitheatre.
TALA AMPHITHEATRE
Access from car park via long ramp. Most convenient seating will be front row areas. Please call in advance to book these seats.
PARADISE PLACE, Pomos
Auditorium and toilets all disabled-friendly and accessible. More details from Socratis on 99 516932
CURIUM AMPHITHEATRE, Limassol
Disabled access via top or lower tier of theatre.
ANCIENT ODEON AMPHITHEATRE, Kato Paphos
Disabled access via main (harbour) entrance. Theatre can be reached by car but wheelchair users will need help for small step up to auditorium. Front seating is necessary, so please let us know in good time to reserve these seats.
PISSOURI AMPHITHEATRE, Pissouri Village
Access from car park via long ramp. Most convenient seating will be back rows and areas behind.
